RIP Sitecore Application Center

While trying to activate the Sitecore Geolocation Service we were getting following exception:

apps.sitecore.net took too long to respond

After some digging we had to reach out Sitecore Support hence raised the ticket. The response from Sitecore Support was shocking. Per their response the Application Center was discontinued by Sitecore effective from April, 01, 2020. For more details please have a look at this official article by Sitecore.

Therefore the process to activate the service was also changed. Now onwards if you want to activate the service then have to follow the steps mentioned below:

• Go to the Sitecore Support Portal and click on Create Service Request (please note: depending on your permission level, your view of the support portal may contain fewer widgets than the one shown below).

• Click IP Geolocation Agreement Document.

• When presented with the IP geolocation Agreement page, enter your account and contract.

• Accept the Terms of Service to confirm your subscription.

Now your subscription is complete.

Note: After you have activated your subscription, it may take some time for the system to update the license information. When the system has updated, the Sitecore IP Geolocation service will automatically conduct geolocation lookups.
